Charlottesville Virginia Boudoir Photography
Hanging over a 50 ft. cliff, toes curled around the edge of the rock, my creativity flowed as freely as the river below. Charlottesville, Virginia officially has my heart! I really wish I could have snapped a behind the scenes photo of what it took to capture the gorgeous photo above! It was Louise's idea to be in the water while I photographed her from above. I'm not going to lie, just the mention of that idea had me a bit queasy. I'm not exactly afraid of heights, but they're not my best friend either. I love relishing in beautiful views from the tops of mountains, I just don't want to hang my toes over the edge. When we scouted the location the day before she showed me the spot she had in mind. I climbed up to the top to see if I could make it happen, and I couldn't really make myself get as close as I need to get a shot of the water without getting the cliff in the shot. "Oh boy" I thought, "this is going to take some guts." I had it in my mind that it may not work at all. The next day after we had been shooting for a while and totally in love with everything we were getting. It was time to try the water shot. Louise and her husband had an idea to keep me safe. I was going to "wear" her tripod case across my chest and her husband was going to hang on to the strap to stabilize me. I'll have you know that the second I stepped up to the edge and saw Louise floating in the water with the fabric around her I completely forgot that I was afraid. I went right up to the edge and hung over as much as physics would allow. Even my toes were over the edge! Something about having the camera in my hands and inspiration right in front of me made me feel invincible! I "oooooed and ahhhed" with every shot. And Louise was such a trooper! Did I mention how cold the water was? Buuurrrr!!! It was quite chilly, especially for this Louisiana girl! Time and time again she would swim upstream and spread the fabric out, letting the stream carry her through the frame of my camera. I get chills just thinking back on that day. Such perfection. I love being inspired by nature and femininity!
We shot photos until it got too dark to shoot, then we set up camp and hung out around a fire. This, by the way, is my idea of an absolutely perfect day! Making gorgeous photos and camping! I about died when I realized that the Milky Way Galaxy is visible with the naked eye from where we were camped. Oh. My. God. So humbling. I couldn't miss taking a photo of it. But I'm going to save that, as well as the next day's gorgeous photos, for next week! Make sure to subscribe to the blog so you don't miss it! Check us out on Facebook as well!
