OUTDOOR BOUDOIR IN CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA: SUMMER 2026 IS HERE.

Summer 2026 is here, and if you’ve been thinking about doing an outdoor boudoir session,

this is your sign.

There is something about shooting outside in the Virginia summer that just hits different. The golden hour light in the Blue Ridge foothills is soft and warm and does things for your skin that indoor sessions just can’t replicate. The heat loosens people up. Being outside, barefoot in the grass or perched on a rock with a powerful river rushing around you, makes you forget to be self-conscious. And when that happens, that's when we get the good stuff.

I’m Jen Fox, a boudoir and erotica photographer based just outside Charlottesville in Crozet, VA. Every summer I open a limited number of outdoor session spots, and they go fast. The Blue Ridge is literally in our backyard. The light here is something else. The variety in the landscape is 🤌🏻 chef’s kiss!

Don't just take my word for it. One client described her Blue Ridge session like this:

Feeling the wind on my naked body, that is what I hope to never forget. I love the way it felt to be naked in the woods. That is what made me feel beautiful and strong.

Read her full experience from that session right here.

Another client called it a rite of passage.

I realized, as I stared dumbstruck at Jen’s portraits of me, that I had been carrying myself as if I were still a 16 year old tomboy.

Her full reflection is here and it's worth the read.

What’s it actually like to shoot outdoors near Charlottesville?

I shoot outdoor sessions throughout Central Virginia, from open fields and wooded trails to more secluded spots with a view. If you're coming in from Richmond, Northern Virginia, D.C., or anywhere else in Virginia, a lot of my clients make a weekend of it in Charlottesville. Honestly? Not a bad idea.

SO WHAT DO YOU ACTUALLY WEAR?

Less than you think. Summer is a great time for outdoor sessions because you don't need layers. A slip, a sheer robe, a button-down shirt that's definitely not buttoned. Or nothing at all, if that feels right to you. We'll figure it out together during your consultation. If you want to go deep on this, I wrote a whole guide here.

WHAT ABOUT THE HEAT?

Honestly, we work with it. We shoot early morning before the heat gets too intense, or closer to golden hour when the light is magic, and the temperature is at least tolerable. Virginia summers are no joke, I know. But a little glow from the heat? That photographs beautifully.

If you've been on the fence, I'll say what I always say: the right time is not going to fall into your lap. You decide when you're ready, and then you make it happen. Summer 2026 sessions are booking now.
