My Top 4 Songs for Boudoir Photoshoots
Music has a profound affect on us.
There’s no doubt about that. The impact that music has on people is absolutely undeniable. Music is used to amp us up, calm us down, help us focus, get us “in the mood”. It’s used in religious ceremonies to help people feel a deeper connection to god. Department stores use music with a fast beat to keep shoppers moving and buying. Spas use softer, slower music to keep people feeling calm and relaxed.
Music plays a HUGE role in my boudoir photoshoots as well. Most likely, you’re going to walk in feeling a bit nervous (most people do). I want the music I choose to help you feel relaxed, but not falling asleep relaxed. The music needs to be upbeat enough for you to be able to tap into your sensual energy without feeling too overwhelmed and frazzled. I want slow, drippy beats that travel at the speed that your hands do over your body when you’re feeling sensual. Most importantly, I want the music to make you feel sensual in your body. To me, boudoir photoshoots are all about exploring different aspects of your sensual nature, and music can help us get there.
In this blog, I’ve listed my top 4 songs that are on my boudoir playlist that are pure magic when they come on. If you want to dive a little deeper than just listening to the songs, I’ve also included a sensual practice for each song. Feel free to modify the practice to what you’re comfortable with. When you do this practice, put on something that makes you feel sexy (favorite pair of jeans, sexy bra, a cute top, nightie, etc.), fluff up your hair and put on makeup if that’s your jam. You don’t have to go all-out glam and turn yourself into someone you would see on the cover of a magazine, but little things make a big difference. If you’ve been in sweat pants all day it may be a bit harder to slip into the mood. Some sort of physical transition can be helpful to shift your mindset.
My Top 4 Songs for Boudoir Photoshoots:
Make You Feel - Alina Baraz
This is the perfect song for making flirty eyes at the camera. It has a sweetness to it’s sex appeal that keeps it from being over-the-top-sexy (we’ll get to that by the last song) while still oozing sensuality.
Try it:
Practice flirting with this song by standing in front of your mirror (I recommend kneeling with your knees apart if that’s possible) and hit play and give yourself the most shameless flirty eyes you’ve given in the history of your existence! Run your fingers over your lips, play with your hair coyly, flirt with yourself over your shoulder and move gently with the music. And remember, it doesn’t have to be all serious, you can flirt laugh and be playful with yourself!
You’re the one that I want - Lo Fang
My mouth fell open when I heard this song. It took me a while to realize why it felt so familiar, why I knew ALL the words to a song I’ve never heard before. It’s that song from Grease Lightening!! This songs makes it easier to tune into your sensuality and move in slow and seductive ways.
Try it:
Hit play and as soon as “I’ve got chills, they’re multiplying” starts, run your hands from your neck to your hips as slowly as possible then back up again. If you’re feeling saucy, run your hands down the outside of your thighs then back up your inner thighs. Keep moving your hands over your body and don’t forget to breathe! Peer up at yourself in the mirror every now and again to bring in the practice from the previous song.
River - Bishop Briggs
The first thing I said the first time I heard this song was “WHO THE FUCK IS THAT?!” Her voice just reached down inside of me and gripped… something deep. The beat made my hips want to writhe.
Try it:
I’m a barefoot kinda gal, but if you feel great in heels then grab a pair! Press play and step crossing one foot in front of the other letting your hips sway with each step. Let your big toe lightly drag the floor on your foot that’s behind you. When you feel good with your strut, add in hands. Slowly caress your sides, arms and breasts while you strut. Smack your ass if you’re feeling it! At the end of the song strut right over to your bed then hit play for the next song and dive right into that practice!
Phoenix - Laura Doggett
I just love the sentiment of this song “Phoenix gonna rise from the ash again”. HELL YES! Add that empowering sentiment to the seductive beat and you’ve got the perfect slow strutting boudoir song!
Try it:
If you read this and feel self conscious just thinking about it, wait until no one is home and lock your bedroom door. Throw your comforter off of your bed, I want you to be able to feel your sheets on your skin. I recommend wearing as little as you feel comfortable with. Turn the music up as loud as feels good to you, or put on some headphones (bluetooth, don’t get tangled) so you can really feel it. Start by laying on your back with your knees bent and apart, feet flat on the bed. Move your arms against the sheets feeling every inch of your skin that’s in contact with the sheets. Alternate arching your back and lifting your hips while grabbing your thighs. Roll over and push your hips into the air, then press your chest into the bed. Roll to your side and run your hand, slooooowly along the length of your body back and forth.
Want a video of all this?
If you’re having a hard time following the prompts, or just need some inspiration to go off of, it’s possible that I may be able to be convinced to make a video with instructions you can follow. Being on video feels very vulnerable for me, but I would do it for you all if it would be helpful! If there are enough comments requesting video instruction, then I would feel happy and excited to make a video! So comment below if you’d like to see how I would do the above practices! And comment with YOUR favorite sexy songs, too! I want to know what gets you moving and feeling sensual!
**It’s perfectly normal for explorations like this to bring up feelings of discomfort. We’re taught from a very young age that sex and sensuality is inappropriate and even dangerous. The truth is it’s a very beautiful part of the human experience that should be celebrated. IT IS OK TO FEEL SEXY AND EXPRESS YOUR SENSUALITY! Go slow and don’t force yourself to do things that don’t fit YOU. Don’t guilt yourself if you’re not able to do it, this is just for fun so don’t let it become a burden. It might not be the right exercise for you. The music may not be right or the movements may not fit. It’s true that I’m an expert on helping women bring out their sexy, but I’m not an expert on you. Only you are an expert on you, so trust yourself in knowing what works for you. Find some music and movements that work for you! Or if you want some in person instructions with gorgeous photos of you in your sensual flow, contact me to book a boudoir photoshoot!
